Kameelah Janan Rasheed: Are We Reading Closely?

Curator

This exhibition debuted the first artwork to grace the Museum’s historic columned façade, Kameelah Janan Rasheed’s visually playful banners Are You Reading Closely? (2020).

A Brooklyn-based artist, Rasheed’s two-part installation referenced close reading as a way to invite reflection, question assumptions, and pause exhausting patterns of visibility, in favor of attention, care, and strategies for self-determination.
